California Native American Day celebration in Sacramento at the State Capitol [2025 Event Programming – California Native American Day]

California Native American Day Celebrates “Walking in their Footsteps: Carrying Forward the Legacy of Strength and Sovereignty.” This year celebrates the 58th year of this Annual Event.

The California Tribal Chairpersons’ Association (CTCA) will host the annual California Native American Day celebration on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the West Steps of the California State Capitol.

California Native American Day is a statewide observance that honors the First People of the land now known as California. The holiday celebrates living cultures, affirms Tribal sovereignty, and educates the broader public about Native history, resilience, and leadership.

This year’s theme, “Walking in Their Footsteps: Carrying Forward the Legacy of Strength and Sovereignty,” honors the resilience, leadership, and cultural vibrancy of California’s First People. The event is sponsored by Tribal Nations across California, with legislative sponsorship by the native American Legislative Caucus, chaired by Assemblymember James C. Ramos.

“California Native American Day is more than a commemoration, it is a living commitment to our ancestors, our sovereignty, and our future generations,” said CTCA Chairwoman Erica Pinto, Chairwoman, Jamul Indian Village. “As we walk in their footsteps, we carry forward their strength and ensure that California continues to recognize and honor Tribal Nations as integral to this state’s past, present, and future.”

This event is free, and all are welcome!
